Kyem
is here for people when systems fall short.
We support people in Nottinghamshire who are navigating some of life’s hardest challenges, from insecure housing and mental health struggles to addiction, trauma, and poverty; issues which can eventually lead to homelessness.
Our approach is practical, personal and proven. Whether someone is sleeping rough, sofa surfing, or on the edge of crisis, we provide consistent, one-to-one and group support that builds trust, restores hope, and helps people move forward, reducing the chances of experiencing homelessness.

NEW CHARITY.
PROVEN MODEL.
DEEP ROOTS.
Although The Kyem Initiative was registered with the Charity Commission in 2024, our team has been delivering high-quality support for homeless and vulnerable adults and families since 2018.
Kyem was born directly out of the success of René House CIC, an award winning, respected, Nottingham-based supported housing provider.
Since day one the team have built and refined a proven support model alongside the high quality accommodation delivered at René House. Our ethos, our systems, and outcomes come from the foundation of experience honed within René House.
Across Nottinghamshire and surrounding areas Kyem will continue to support those who find themselves facing housing insecurity, but we found that in many cases, a period of homelessness was just a symptom of deeper issues.
Unfortunately, many people experience a lack of support (with things like mental/physical health, budgeting, social isolation, offending behaviour etc.) months or years earlier, whilst these are less intense issues. Therefore, these issues compile, spiral, and in a lot of cases we saw, contributed to homelessness.
Therefore, now with an increased scope to intervene earlier we aim to support vulnerable individuals and families to address barriers to them maintaining their accommodation, before it becomes a crisis.
We’re grounded in lived experience, trusted locally, and now, through The Kyem Initiative, are better placed than ever to serve more people.

WHAT WE DO.
We walk alongside people, not ahead of them.
Our support is trauma-informed, person-centred, and focused on what matters to each individual. That might mean helping someone register with a GP, access therapy, find housing, attend court, budget for food, or simply believe they’re worth supporting.

ONGOING ONE-TO-ONE KEYWORKING.
We offer a comprehensive range of support for those currently facing barriers which often contribute towards a housing crisis, those on low incomes and benefits or those with other issues impacting wellbeing.

SUPPORT WITH MENTAL HEALTH, SUBSTANCE MISUSE, FINANCES AND MORE.
Our person-centered approach focuses on understanding the unique needs and aspirations of each service user, tailoring our support to foster their individual potential.

REFERRALS TO SERVICES AND COMMUNITY OPPORTUNITIES.
Having strong links within the local ecosystem to resources that can benefit those on low incomes and housing instability. We provide guidance, and opportunities that empower service users to achieve their highest personal aspirations.

GROUP ACTIVITIES, SKILLS BUILDING AND CONFIDENCE SUPPORT.
At Kyem, we aim to nurture the existing skills and talents of our service users. However, we also provide opportunities for them to discover new skills, whether its personal admin, health and wellbeing or addressing criminal behaviour. We are their to help them build confidence through positive experiences.

ADVOCATING FOR VULNERABLE ADULTS.
Many of our service users often get left behind due to a lack of knowledgeable representation. For example, liaising with GPs, Local Authorities or Landlords. Our team makes sure that services users are properly heard.
